WisdomTree launches private credits on-chain
Key Takeaways

WisdomTree launches tokenized private credit funds on Ethereum and Stellar.

This initiative bridges conventional finance and cryptocurrency, allowing for broader participation while reducing costs and settlement times.

Other major asset managers are experimenting with tokenization, reflecting a potential shift in how traditional finance engages with blockchain.

Asset manager WisdomTree has introduced the WisdomTree Private Credit and Alternative Income Digital Fund (CRDYX), with token ticker CRDT, designed to track the Gapstow Private Credit and Alternative Income Index (GLACI).

WisdomTree Brings Tokenized Private Credit On-chain

WisdomTree has taken a bold step in the growing world of digital finance by introducing its first tokenized fund, a product designed to give investors exposure to the booming private-credit market through blockchain rails.

The WisdomTree Private Credit and Alternative Income Digital Fund (CRDT), which went live on September 12 on Ethereum and Stellar, is accessible via the firm’s Prime and Connect platforms. The fund will track the Gapstow Private Credit and Alternative Income Index, aiming to provide access to these products through an on-chain structure.

GLACI tracks an equal-weighted index of 35 investment vehicles that include closed-end funds, business development companies, and real-estate investment trusts.

Expanding Access and Bridging Finance Through Tokenization

With a minimum entry of just $25, CRDT allows redemptions within two days, lowering costs that constituted a barrier for small investors to invest in private markets.

“It’s really just about bringing the asset class to a whole universe of different investors”, said Will Peck, head of digital assets at WisdomTree.

Peck’s comment highlights the larger intention of not only making private credit accessible, but doing so in a way that feels native to both blockchain and traditional finance participants.

CRDT gives investors a way to participate indirectly, while tokenization ensures that costs and settlement times can be reduced. By turning conventional assets like private loans and funds into blockchain-based tokens, WisdomTree is helping connect two fast-moving worlds of traditional finance and crypto. This bridge is where this attempt lies, as Wall Street courts capital from crypto-native investors while also testing new infrastructure for its own clients.

Industry Momentum and Future Outlook

The move comes as asset managers ramp up efforts to tokenize real-world assets (RWA). The RWA market has grown to nearly $30 billion in on-chain value, data from RWA.xyz shows.

Some observers see the moment as similar to the early days of the US spot crypto ETFs, which have become among the top institutional demands today.

This increased Industry involvement is evident in how BlackRock, Janus Henderson recently unveiled a tokenized version of one of its flagship credit strategies, adding another name to the roster of major asset managers experimenting in this space.

The effort, which would require regulatory approval, is aimed at enhancing liquidity, enabling 24/7 trading, and expanding global access. It could also serve as a bridge between DeFi and traditional finance, opening the door to new forms of capital markets within the crypto ecosystem.

Likewise, Binance partnered with Franklin Templeton to begin exploring tokenized products for global markets. Similarly, Fidelity and VanEck are testing tokenized Treasury offerings. These initiatives reflect an industry willing to probe how blockchain can be used at scale, even if results remain early.
